Josef Stalin and his Realism
Lenin and the communists brought changes to Russia. First the communists signed the treaty of Brest- Litovsk. This Treat said they that Russia has been taken out of WWI and Russia gives land to Germany and Austria in exchange for peace. The Cheka was the secret police that killed anyone who were against the Communists. The Commissar were educated Russians on communist principles. Lenin thought that capitalism made the poor even poorer. Lenin also encouraged Atheism and said "Religion is the opium of the people used by the capitalists to brainwash the workers." Lenin's plan to boost the economy was to create the New Economic Policy. This policy stated that peasants controlled all farmland and workers controlled all factories. It also stated that some capitalism was allowed and people can own businesses. In 1924, Lenin dies from a stroke. Lenin wanted Leon Trotsky to be the new leader of the USSR but instead Josef Stalin takes control and wanted to spread communism to the rest of the world.
Life is Russia changed with Stalin in control. He took peasants' farms and forced them work on collective farms. Stalin's Soviet Realism included the brainwashing on the superiority of Stalin and the USSR. It also included the Reorganization of Literary and Art Institutions. In the 1930's, there a Great Purge ordered by Stalin. He ordered all enemies to be executed and the evidence of their existence to be destroyed. The results of the Great Purge ended with false accusations, arrests, and trials. This made the innocent to live in fear. Almost 15 million people were killed. 50% were communists and part of the secret police. During the Great Purge, Stalin exiled Leon Trotsky from the USSR. He was stabbed to death with an ice pick in Mexico City in 1940.
